Sakar India

Background

Background of Kargil Basti, Aerodrome Area, Bhubaneswar

The smart city modernization redefined urban life and urbanization became a mandatory precondition to modernization. As the urban-rural relationship experienced a pragmatism shift, the new socio-political environment put villages at the back stage.
Village resources were drained out to support urban life and a dependency of rurals upon urbans was created. As a result, urbanization has increased rapidly and while discussing the impacts of urbanization on young urban areas, it creates an unpleasant
picture where access to education, basic services, exploitation in work place and security, puts a huge question mark.

SAKAR wishes to construct a 15×22 ft room for the slum kids to use it as an ‘any time learning center.’ With the support of ActionAid India, the
organization was successful in enrolling and retaining all 625 children from the slums of Bhubaneswar in government schools within a period of 10 months.
We made the non-functioning EGC centers to become functional with the timely intervention of Mrs. Nirupama Sahoo of SAKAR who has been interviewed, selected and appointed as a teacher in a government school, Saranakul UGUP School, Nayagarh, Odisha
