Welcome to SAKAR

In May 1997, we embarked on a journey of hope and transformation with the creation of SAKAR (Society for Awareness, Knowledge, and Rightful Living)—a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization born from a deep commitment to stand with those who are often overlooked. Our mission began in the slums of Bhubaneswar, where vulnerable children and families struggled amidst the turmoil of government-led evictions. These actions left countless slum dwellers stripped of their homes, dignity, and basic human rights, plunging them into deeper despair.

Witnessing this injustice, we felt compelled to act. SAKAR became a beacon of support for the most marginalized—children forced to pick rags to survive and families denied even the most fundamental necessities. We stood by them, determined to secure their right to safe drinking water, hygienic living conditions, food, clothing, shelter, education, and above all, a life of dignity.

For over two decades, SAKAR has been more than an organization; it has been a lifeline for communities in need. Through relentless advocacy, grassroots action, and unwavering compassion, we have empowered those who had lost hope. We have fought for their rights, nurtured their potential, and worked tirelessly to break the cycle of poverty and injustice.
